Guided Meditation Class at YWCA Downtown Vancouver, Canada

On Tuesday May 17, 2016, Ms. Pimchanok and the Saisamorn Family invited Phrakhrubhavanavidesa, the Abbot of Seattle Meditation Center, to teach meditation at YWCA, which is an organization to help poor women in the downtown of Vancouver, Canada.  Even though Vancouver is a crowded place, there are still some quiet places where are suitable for meditation.

There were many people from various occupations joining in this program.  The teaching monk gave the principle of meditation and told them about things that would happen from meditation which are the basic of meditation.  He introduced about 7 bases of the body and the importance of the 7th base of the body that it is like the entrance to inner peace and inner bodies.  He also suggested them to visualize some bright & light sphere and repeat “Samma Arahang” Mantra; if they could not do so, they just observed their inner experience.  The teaching monks explained that the human’s mind always wanders; if they try to still their mind at the center of the body, only the dedicate mind is able to go into it.  He also explained about 5 obstacles of meditation.  One or more can be happened in each meditation session.

After that the participants meditated together; they were introduced to relax their bodies by sitting in the right posture and keeping their minds calm.  Then, they were taught to focus their mind at the center of the body.  When the meditation time was over, the teaching monk asked them about their inner experience and many of them had good experience.
