On 13 July 2024, at Wat Weluwan in Yala province, Most Venerable Phrathep Wachiranayok, the Ecclesiastical Chief of Yala Province and the abbot of Wat Weluwan, presided over the 171st necessity offering to 323 temples in its 20th year in order to dedicate the merit to the deceased due to the insurgency in the 4 southern provinces (Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat, and the four districts of Songkhla) and the 136th scholarship presentation ceremony in its 17th year. 199 scholarships were presented to teachers in the 4 southern provinces so as to encourage them to perform duty in their area. Mr.Supachai Fujit, Presiding Judge of the Central Juvenile and Family Court-Yala province, was the laypeople chairman. This event was live broadcasted via www.zoom.com and www.gbnus.com for the large number of Buddhists in Thailand and from abroad.
Wat Phra Dhammakaya, together with Dhammakaya Foundation and laypeople throughout the world, has arranged 171 times of this event continuously for 20 years. In conclusion, over 40,000 scholarships were presented to teachers in the 4 southern provinces and 6,000 tons of dry food items were offered to the monastic communities, soldiers and police, teachers and local residents in the civil unrest areas.
