The Great Sanghadana to 40,000 Temples across Thailand on Earth Day 2026

On 22 April 2026, at Wat Phra Dhammakaya in Pathum Thani province, Welcomed by Luang Por Dhattajivo and Venerable Phrakhrupaladrattanaveerawat, abbot of Wat Phra Dhammakaya and advisor to ecclesiastical chief of Pathum Thani province, Most Venerable Somdetphraputtajarn, committee member of the Sangha Supreme Council of Thailand, ecclesiastical chief of East Region and abbot of Wat Traimit Witthayaram Worawihan, together with Most Venerable Somdetphramaha Ratchamongkolthepmuni, committee member of the Sangha Supreme Council of Thailand, ecclesiastical chief of Central Region and assistant abbot of Wat Traimit Witthayaram Worawihan, presided over the great Sanghadana on Earth Day. At 9.00 am, over 80,000 monks and 100,000 laypeople attended the meditation practice and jointly offered the monastic essentials to the monks from 323 temples in the 4 southern provinces of Thailand. This marked the 184th offering in its 22nd year. In the afternoon, the temple hosted two seminars on 1.“Stability of Buddhism” for Thai monastic communities and 2.“The International Monastic Collaboration” for international monks from 10 countries. For the evening session, Most Venerable Phrapromvachirapanyajarn (Pali scholar of level 9), abbot of Wat Ratcha Orasaram Ratchaworawihan presided over the great offering of monastic necessities to 40,000 temples across Thailand.

This great offering of monastic necessities to 40,000 temples across Thailand aims to support Buddhism in Thailand by offering the monastic essentials to the temples especially in up-country provinces, building faith in Buddhism among laypeople through the gathering of over 180,000 Buddhists and monks for this merit-making activity, promoting the unity of the Four Buddhist Communities by the way of giving, precept observation and meditation practice and expressing gratitude to Luang Por Dhammajayo on his 82nd birth anniversary.

“Earth Day was initiated by American Senator Gaylord Nelson who campaigned among American people on the world protection. Later, the World Fellowship of Buddhist Youth (WFBY) passed a resolution to declare every April 22 as the day of “World Protection by Dhamma“ under the concept “Clean the World, Clean the Mind” because the mind of all human beings should be maintained in purity. Consequently, the temple organizes the event of “World Protection by Dhamma“ on Earth Day 2026 in order that the Four Buddhist Communities gather to follow the teachings of the Buddha which are “Abstain from all misdeeds; Perform only good deeds; and Purify one’s mind” by the meritorious acts of giving, precept observation and meditation practice for the purpose of bringing true peace to the world,” Venerable Phrakhrusamu Sanitwong Wuttiwangso, director of Communication Department and assistant abbot of Wat Phra Dhammakaya said.
