What Is Needed Goes Unlearned; What Is Learned Goes Unused

On the matter of learning and education, there is much to be entrusted to reflection. The human lifespan is brief — before one reach even a hundred years, one has already departed from this world. Yet the knowledge that exists within this world is boundless — these subject merits study, that subject merits knowing — indeed, all knowledge seems worthy of pursuit. Even were one granted a thousand years of life, one could not exhaust it all. And yet in truth, our years do not even reach a hundred.

Therefore, one who does not know how to choose wisely what to learn shall gain very little of true worth. For that which one shall need in life goes unlearned, whilst that which one has learned goes unused. Worse still, should one take what has been learned and apply it in ways that are misguided and ill-directed — putting it to wrongful use — the consequences become all the graver and more burdensome.
