International Vesak Day 2025 in Australia

Three branches of Wat Phra Dhammakaya in Australia coordinated with Buddhist organizations to celebrate the 25th United Nations Day of Vesak.

On 14 May 2025, at Parliament House, Canberra, Australia, Wat Phra Dhammakaya-Sydney, Wat Phra Dhammakaya-Melbourne and Wat Phra Dhammakaya-Albury collaborated with Buddhist Federation of Australia and Buddhist organizations in New South Wales and Victoria to organize “THE AUSTRALIAN OBSERVANCE OF THE UNITED NATIONS DAY OF VESAK” in order to celebrate the 25th United Nations Day of Vesak in 2025 at Parliament House in Canberra, Australia. The Buddhist monastic communities of all nations and denominations and a large number of Buddhists of all races in Australia also took part in this event.

The event started with the almsgiving to monastic community, presided over by Ms. Phornsan Kamlang-Ek, chairperson of Gen. Arthit & Phornsan Kamlang-Ek Foundation. She also presented a golden Dhammakaya Buddha image to Buddhist Federation of Australia on behalf of Wat Phra Dhammakaya.

Later, the president of Buddhist Federation of Australia read the message from the prime minister of Australia and delivered a welcome speech for all attendees, followed by the chanting of all Buddhist denominations, the mass meditation, guided by Venerable Phrakhru Phavanayanvithes, abbot of Wat Phra Dhammakaya-Melbourne with the teachings of Luang Por Dhammajayo on “The outer peace starts from the inner peace.” and the spread of loving kindness to all living creatures.

Additionally, Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen gave a speech that he felt peace and happiness from his meditation practice in that event, which was attended by ambassadors from Thailand, India and Bhutan.
