On the night of Friday, February 19th 2016 Ven.Tissaro from the Meditation Center of Japan gave a meditation instruction to Japanese at Joenji Temple, Shinjuku, Tokyo. This is a monthly activity. After the evening chanting, the teaching monk asked most attendants why they wanted to meditate. The answers were the following:
- Because they liked it, i.e. due to their personal interest.
- Because they realized the benefits of meditation.
- Meditation, though good, will not be beneficial without practice.
The teaching monk also continued asking a question, “When a problem arises, how can it be solved?”
- Without mindfulness, one will not be able to see a problem and its solution. It is like trying to find an exit in a dark room.
2.Training oneself in mindfulness can be done by regular practice through meditation, then a solution will be seen step by step, clearly.
After that, the teaching monk led them to meditate by purify their minds and sharing their meditation experiences.
