On 19 June 2022, Ven. Phramaha Nopporn Punyachayo, Associate Director of Communication Department, Wat Phra Dhammakaya, mentioned that 2022 is the 48th anniversary for Thai-Mongolia diplomatic relations but the religious relations were still at the beginning stage. Ven. Chanvit Voravitcho, the Abbot of Wat Phra Dhammakaya- Mongolia exposed that there was no Thai community in Mongolia when he first visited Mongolia in 2012. He spent some time to be acquainted with the cold weather, the food and the culture, which were different from Thailand. What impressed him a lot was the interest in Buddhism among Mongolian people. Then he had intention to build a temple for the Mongolians to find inner peace through meditation. To understand the Mongolians better, he pursued his studies at Mongolia International University and was the only one Thai student who graduated from this university.
“Throughout the past 10 years, the temple has organized the annual lantern lighting ceremony at the stadium of the city and it was participated by the monks of Watcharayan and Theravada and a large number of residents from Ulaanbaatar and the nearby cities. Moreover, the number of Mongolian people, coming to Wat Phavana-Mongolia to learn meditation, have increased significantly. Then Wat Phra Dhammakaya-Mongolia is later established to accommodate the rising number of lay people. They will organize 7 merit making activities during 4-8 July 2022. Those activities are 1. The first time of novice ordination in Mongolia 2. The online food offering to monks and novices 3. The Dhammayatra procession (online) for the Buddha’s relics 4. The enshrinement ceremony for the Buddha’s relics at Wat Phra Dhammakaya-Mongolia 5. The formal opening ceremony of Wat Phra Dhammakaya-Mongolia 6.
