One Who Deceives Is Capable of Every Manner of Wrongdoing

Saccā — truthfulness — is the quality of earnestness and sincerity, of straightforwardness and transparency, of unwavering consistency free from duplicity and moral crookedness. It is the expression of one’s true and essential nature, and it stands as the very axis upon which all virtuous qualities turn.

Whosoever forfeits their truthfulness forfeits their humanity entire — for the central axis of virtue, which forms the very core of the heart, has been irreparably broken.

The Perfectly Enlightened One, the Lord Buddha, declared: “There is no evil in this world that one who lies knowingly and deliberately is incapable of committing.” To speak plainly — whosoever continues to deceive with full and conscious knowledge of their deceit has lost all goodness within them. Such a person is one of truly base character, for the very core of their virtue has been shattered and severed beyond restoration.
