Whenever a difficult situation arose, the revered grandmother teacher would say, simply and characteristically: “Remember this — the less you sit in meditation, the more problems you have. The more you sit, the fewer problems there are.”
Therefore, whenever a problem arises, what the Master Nun Khun Yay Ajarn advised one to do first and without delay is to sit in meditation as much as possible. Then look to whatever acts of merit and generosity one can perform, and carry them out promptly. The merit one creates will in due course bring about resolution in one matter after another.
At the same time, one does not run away from the problem itself. One engages with it directly and works to resolve it — but not through exploitation, destruction, or any form of wrongdoing. One acts only in accordance with what is right, while continuing to accumulate merit alongside. If one conducts oneself in this way, it is entirely in accord with the principles of Buddhism.
