Whoever from an early age has been raised by parents who instilled good habits will, from childhood onward, naturally reject and refrain from anything unwholesome. To have been blessed with virtuous parents who guided one away from unwholesome conduct is indeed a great fortune.
However, whoever has parents who had little time to spare — being consumed by the demands of earning a living — and was left largely to their own devices among siblings, receiving little in the way of guidance, will have acquired unwholesome habits in the process. As these habits deepen over time, one may eventually commit serious wrongs and cause considerable harm.
It is habit, therefore, that serves as the governing force of human good and evil.
