The First Pilgrimage of Thai Monks in Mexico

On 19 April 2026, Venerable Phrakhrusamu Sanitwong Wuttiwangso, director of Communication Department and assistant abbot of Wat Phra Dhammakaya mentioned that on 12 April 2026, the 10 Thai Dhammaduta monks coordinated with the secretary general of the Council of Thai Bhikkhus in the USA to organize the activity of “Walk for Peace” in downtown Mexico City.

It was the first time that Thai monks officially walked for peace or undertook their pilgrimage, which was another format of Buddhism propagation in North America. This activity helped promote the community unity and peace. Starting at 8.30 am in the heart of Mexico City, the activity began with the notification of the walking rules for all monks and laypeople, followed by the monks’ preaching and blessing for the auspiciousness of all attendees. There were approximately 500 attendees including laypeople and locals, who joined the chanting and the mindful walk.

This represents the significant progress in the spread of Buddhism abroad especially in North America that strengthens cultural relations and partly promotes the global true peace.
