Wat Phra Dhammakaya Manchester arranged Wednesday Meditation Class for Locals on Wednesday May 2, 2018 from 7:30 – 9:00 p.m. Before the meditation class, the teaching monk assigned Ms. Jeannette Slavinski to lead the participants in Yoga exercise for 15 minutes. This was to relax their bodies and stretch their tendons. When their bodies were comfortable and relaxed, the teaching monk greeted the participants and introduced them on how to sit comfortably and meditate long, how to visualize omen and repeat mantra for support their minds.
He also suggested that repeating the mantra will help their mind remain still longer than relaxing music. Then, the teaching monk led them to meditate for 40 minutes.
After that, the staff played the media about meditation and mind which was compared with the monkey. The mind is not calm like the monkey is naughty. We cannot force the mind to be still, but we can practice for the mind to be familiar with stillness, so that we can still the mind at last. We should observe our last week experience that how it was different from this week.
Before the class was over, the class representative offered alms for the temple maintenance fund.
