The promotion of Pali studies among temple personnel in 2024

On 21 August 2024, at the Meditation Hall of the Master Nun Chan Khonnokyoong Centennial Building, Venerable Phrakhrupaladrattanaveerawat, the abbot of Wat Phra Dhammakaya presided over the meeting of temple personnel (monks, novices, laymen and laywomen) and announced the temple’s policy to promote Pali studies that in the past, Phramongkolthepmuni, the re-discover of Dhammakaya meditation and ex-abbot of Wat Paknam Bhasicharoen, emphasized the Pali studies together with meditation practice and Luang Por Dhammajayo has also proceeded in the same direction. He has realized the importance of Pali studies that cover the overall teachings of the Buddha and become the most significant factor to maintain Buddhism. Then he has instilled in monastic groups a love of Pali learning and encouraged the increasing number of monks and novices for the Pali studies.

In this meeting, Most Venerable Phrakhruvijit Arphakorn, Ecclesiastical Chief of Khlong Luang district and abbot of Wat Sawangphop and Most Venerable Phrasurat Chatichanyo, Ecclesiastical Chief of Khlong Luang subdistrict and abbot of Wat Mongkholphukkaram, also delivered speeches to inspire and encourage the meeting attendees to study Pali.

Meanwhile, the managerial monks of Wat Phra Dhammakaya, like Phramaha Sutham Surattano (Pali scholar of level 9), director of Dhamma Studies Institution, Phramaha Wutthichai Wutthichayo (Pali scholar of level 9), director of Education Department and Phramaha Suwit Dhammikamuni (Pali scholar of level 9), the head teacher of Religious Studies Department-Wat Phra Dhammakaya, explained the flexible learning format in order to fit the working schedule and status of temple personnel. Moreover, the online technology would be applied to increase the learning channels of temple personnel, working in the up country provinces and the foreign countries.  

In 2024, the temple personnel determine to study Pali and take the Pali test in honor of the 80th anniversary of Luang Por Dhammajayo.
