DMC News – July 19th, 2013
Mr. Sura Techathat, Consultant of the Cultural Minister, was the president of the ceremony of launching the car procession carrying the Buddhist Lent Candles during the Week of Buddhism since Asalha Puja Day and Buddhist Lent Day 2013 at Sanam Luang. Mrs. Prisna Pongtadsirikul, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, and Mr. Preecha Gunteeya, Director-General of Religious Affairs Department, as well as lots of students participated in this ceremony.
For this ceremony, there was a tom-tom parade in front of the procession of car carrying the Classic Buddhist Lent Candles to offer to ten royal temples such as Wat Sraket Rajavaravihara, Wat Paknam Bhasicharoen, Bowonniwet Vihara, Wat Traimitr Withayaram, etc. This was the opening ceremony of the Week of Buddhism in the first day. The Religious Affairs Department co-operated with temples around the country to arrange this ceremony in this year because of HRH Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn’s 61st Birthday Anniversary on July 28th, 2013.
All temples arrange the religious activities such as molding the Buddhist Lent Candles, offering the Buddhist Lent Candles and the monastic bath clothes, the morning alms round, circumambulating, listening Dhamma and practicing meditation during July 20th – 22nd, 2013. We would like you and all Buddhists to wear white suits to the temples and lessen, stop, or quit all kinds of paths of ruin during this Buddhist Lent.
