The event of “World Protection by Dhamma” on Earth Day 2024

On April 22nd, 2024 or Earth Day, Wat Phra Dhammakaya organized the necessity offering to 10,000 temples throughout Thailand including the temples in the four southern provinces.

Every April 22nd is the Earth Day that American Senator, namely Gaylord Nelson, campaigned among the American people to protect the world and the meeting of the World Fellowship of Buddhist Youth (WFBY) had a resolution to declare April 22nd as the “World Protection by Dhamma” under the concept “Clean the World, Clean the Mind”. As human beings are part of the environment and their mind, which is most valuable, should be protected and cleansed by Dhamma. For this reason, Wat Phra Dhammakaya organized the event of “World Protection by Dhamma” for the monks and lay people around the world to follow the Buddha’s teachings, which are “abstain from all misdeeds; perform only good deeds; and purify one’s mind”. Besides, the meritorious actions of giving, precept observation and meditation will increasingly purify one’s mind. Then everyone will have compassion to each other and the true peace will finally happen on earth.

Venerable Phrakrusamusanitwong Wuttiwangso, director of Communication Department, Wat Phra Dhammakaya related that Wat Phra Dhammakaya organized the event of mass meditation, monks’ blessing and the necessity offering to 10,000 temples, which was presided by the Most Venerable Phrapromwachirapanyajarn (Pali scholar of level 9), the abbot of Wat Ratchaorot and the head of the 8th Overseas Dhammaduta Bhikkhus group on occasion of 20th anniversary of necessity offering to 323 temples of the four southern provinces (Songkhla, Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat). This event was the 168th necessity offering to 323 southern temples together with 133rd scholarship offering to teachers in the four southern provinces in its 17th year.
