
On 17 March 2026, Venerable Phrakhrusamu Sanitwong Wuttiwangso, director of Communication Department, Wat Phra Dhammakaya said that Most Venerable Phrapromvachiraphothiwong, abbot of Wat Thai Buddhagaya and monastic head of Thai Dhammaduta in India – Nepal presided over the ordination of 500 Nepali novices at Lumbini in Nepal, the birthplace of the Lord Buddha.
The ordination project for 500 Nepali novices lasts from 10-30 March 2026. For the ordination ceremony, it took place on 16 March 2026 and was attended by Venerable Phrakhrupisaldhamsophon, president of All Nepal Bhikkhu Association and Nepali monks. This ordination was an important event in reviving and promoting Buddhism in Nepal and developing a new generation of religious heirs in the land of Buddhism’s origin.
As the monastic chairman, Most Venerable Phrapromvachiraphothiwong gave a speech to all novices. The Buddhists in Nepal and from abroad enthusiastically took part in this activity, which was the collaboration of Thai and Nepali monastic communities. This ordination is deemed a part of annual ordination project of Nepali novices with the following objectives 1. To propagate the Buddha’s teachings 2. To strengthen the unity of Buddhist community in Nepal 3.To promote Dhamma studies among the local youth.
