On Sunday August 14th, 2016, Wat Phra Dhammakaya Tokyo, Japan, organized a Thai Cultural Exchange meditation class for Japanese, and this event is usually organized on the 2nd Sunday of every month. Starting at 10:30 a.m., the class began with request of the 5 precepts, followed by food offering to the monastic community; after that, they all offered alms to the monastic community and respectfully offered lunch to the monks. At 11:30 a.m., Phrakhru Palad Sunate Cholapinyo kindly educated the participants about the rules of the meditation hall, which interested Japanese people greatly. Other than that, the teaching monk also talked about the basic regulations of visiting a temple, i.e. dressing, bowing, respecting the Triple Gem, etc. Then, they were able to meditation together and share their meditation experiences with one another.
In the afternoon, in the dining hall of Wat Phra Dhammakaya Tokyo, a Thai dessert cooking class was organized for Japanese; and this time, dessert of the day was Foi Thong (Angel’s golden hair) and the instructor was Ms. Janjira Nomoto. Foi Thong dessert is an ancient Thai dessert that had been inherited from time to time until now. Not only that, Japanese participants were given an opportunity to try making it too. They were really interested and could take the freshly made dessert back home as a souvenir. And then at 1 p.m., everybody gathered to have Thai food together with fun and happiness. The activities today pleased everybody immensely. Next activities will be organized on September 11, 2016, at 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m.
