The teachers and the representatives of local scouts from 4 schools which were Hermitage Primary School, Colgrain Primary School, St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, and Hermitage Academy went to study Buddhism and Buddhist Customs at Wat Phra Dhammakaya Scotland, UK.
All scouts learned how to greet people and Buddhist monks, how to bow and pay respect the Thai way.
Moreover, they studied the Buddha’s history through an animation video which interested them very much. On that occasion, the teaching monk asked some questions to test their knowledge and they could remember and answer very quickly. After that, the teaching monk introduced the meditation to the scouts and led them to practice mediation.
The monk also taught the meaning of giving, keeping precepts, and meditation. The scouts learned the culture of making merit which is a way of cultivating good deeds. The teachers and scouts were interested in all activities that day. Lastly, before going back to school, the adults brought some desserts and fruit juice to give the children. Everybody thanked Wat Phra Dhammakaya Scotland for this field trip and the warm welcome.
