Meditation Session for Locals, Joenji Temple, Shinjuku, Tokyo

On the night of Friday, February 19th 2016 Ven.Tissaro from the Meditation Center of Japan gave a meditation instruction to Japanese at Joenji Temple, Shinjuku, Tokyo. This is a monthly activity. After the evening chanting, the teaching monk asked most attendants why they wanted to meditate. The answers were the following:

  1. Because they liked it, i.e. due to their personal interest.
  2. Because they realized the benefits of meditation.
  3. Meditation, though good, will not be beneficial without practice.

The teaching monk also continued asking a question, “When a problem arises, how can it be solved?”

  1. Without mindfulness, one will not be able to see a problem and its solution. It is like trying to find an exit in a dark room.

2.Training oneself in mindfulness can be done by regular practice through meditation, then a solution will be seen step by step, clearly.

After that, the teaching monk led them to meditate by purify their minds and sharing their meditation experiences.
