Thai Buddhist Meditation Center in Japan, Tokyo, arranged meditation and taught dharma in Japanese on the topic of “Current Situation of Buddhism in Thailand” by Ven Maha Dr. Pongsak Thaniyo. The teaching monk introduced them how to focus their minds softly before meditated together for 20 minutes.
After that the teaching monk told them about the current situation of Buddhism in Thailand that a survey reported that 95% of Thai population are Buddhists but is that fact really accurate today?
Thai people have left their homes to work in urban provinces since the Agricultural era. This affects the relationship between their communities and temples. What are these changes? The number of abandoned temples today is increasing so what are the solutions of this problem?
The teaching monk explained and gave the examples of the solutions which were the activities of Mass Dhammadayada Ordination Programs, Mass Crystal Upasika Training Program, Morning Alms Round to 1,000,000 Monks Project which deliver food and consumption goods to help the monks in four unrest Southern provinces of Thailand, and V-Star Children Project which cultivate and restore morality for Thai youths to be good and smart children via doing 10 special homework and observing their surrounding people’s goodness, etc.
Then, the teaching monk opened chance for the participants to ask questions and had Dharma Talk before going home with new knowledge about the current Buddhism situation in Thailand.
