On Sunday April 10th, 2016 at Japanese Meditation Center, Tokyo, the center arranged meditation and taught dharma in Japanese on the topic of “Paṭipadā 4” by Phrakhrupalad Sunet Chaḷabhiñño. The teaching monk explained about the ways to get benefits from meditation for enlightenment by classifying the practitioners to be 4 types:
- Those who practice dharma difficultly, be attained dharma slowly
- Those who practice dharma difficultly, be attained dharma quickly
- Those who practice dharma comfortably, be attained dharma slowly
- Those who practice dharma comfortably, be attained dharma quickly
The teaching monk gave an example which was the story of Phra Julapandaga พระจูฬปันถก. After his ordination, he could not remember any dhamma teachings so his elder-brother monk have to drive him out of the temple. When the Lord Buddha found out, He gave a piece of white cloth to Phra Julapandaga to grope and repeat the mantra “Rajoharaṇaṁ.” ระโชหะระณัง. Phra Julapandaga did it and then determined that the white cloth is a dark and dirty cloth which is like the instability in human life. After that he meditated and become enlightened as an Arahant because of the darkened white cloth. If you meditate correctly according to your character, you will become wiser and to meditate often and regularly brings good fruits. After the dhamma story, the teaching monk led the participants to meditate for 30 minutes and had a Dharma Talk before going home with minds filled with merit, dhamma, and happiness.
