A Helping Hand for Sri Lanka

Wat Phra Dhammakaya and Dhammakaya Foundation, the Global Network of Wat Phra Dhammakaya’s followers, and the World Buddhist Sangha Youth gave relief bags to the monks and victims of the worst disaster in 14 years
The representatives of the Global Network of Wat Phra Dhammakaya’s followers, Wat Phra Dhammakaya and Dhammakaya Foundation cooperated with the World Buddhist Sangha Youth (WBSY) to give 500 relief bags in the flood areas and helped the monks in Kaluthara, Galle, and Mathara cities, Sri Lanka during June 5-6, 2017.

It was the worst natural disaster in 14 years in Sri Lanka. There were flash flood and landslide in the western and southern provinces. There was a report that over 212 people died, about 100 were lost, and houses and properties have been damaged severely. The representatives traveled to the disaster area to give 500 relief bags to the victims in 5 communities. Someone lost their whole house by the flood. We also offered alms to help 5 victim temples and donated to the Secretary of the Department of Buddhist Affairs to help the victims as well.

We went to give the bags in a remote village at night where there were 12 dead people there. Some communities are very far and the traveling is difficult.

However, we are one of the first groups who came to help. In addition, we gave some money to help the children in three families whose whole houses were damaged.
