
On 10 August 2025, Most Venerable Phratheprattanasutaporn, ecclesiastical chief of Songkhla province and abbot of Wat Khoksamankhun (a royal temple) was the monastic chairman and Major General Paisal Noosang, commander of Army Region 4 was the laypeople chairman for the alms offering ceremony to 10,000 monks at Niphat-Uthit 3 Rd., Hat Yai, Songkhla province. The ceremony started with the English welcome speech of Deputy Governor Jirawach Maneechote, followed by the Thai welcome speech of Hat Yai Mayor Narongporn Na Pattalung, declaration of faith as Buddhists, request of 5 precepts, mass meditation, necessity offering to the monks and dry food offering to 323 temples of the 4 southern provinces.
This alms offering to 10,000 monks was organized with the coordination of Thai monks, invited from 14 southern provinces and international monastic communities from Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. This event was supported by military organizations in the south, Songkhla Provincial Hall, Songkhla Provincial Office of Buddhism, Hat Yai Police Station, Hat Yai City Municipality, Hat Yai District Office and Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) – Hat Yai Office, Songkhla.
The objectives of this almsgiving are 1. To promote the Buddhist tradition 2. To promote the unity among Buddhist monks of all denominations 3. To strengthen the coordination of government sectors and residents in the local areas. The alms offering was first arranged in 2001 during the big flood in Hat Yai in order to encourage the flood victims by doing the good deed according to the Buddhist tradition and receiving the monastic blessing as the good fortune in their life. The number of invited monks is increasing continuously from 500, 1,000, 2,500 and 10,000 monks in recent years and it has been organized consecutively for 22 years.
