Alms Offering for Buddhist Monks before Buddhist Lent.

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     skynoi of Pathum Thani, Thailand, documents more than 12,000 Buddhist monks receiving alms in preparation for a three-month period known as Buddhist Lent. “The monks will use this period to rest and practice the teachings of the Lord Buddha,” says skynoi. Nowadays, the seeing of alms offering to thousands of Buddhist Monks seems to be very normal for Thais, especially Bangkokians. But the things that seldom to happen is to close the main business road, Asokemontree, which is one of the high traffic road in Bangkok.

Road is closed for this alms-event from 2 AM to 9 AM and it takes place from the head junction of the road, big department store- Terminal 21, to the end junction of the road, Petchburi.

This time has more than 100,000 people interested to join the event. Together with highlight of the event, Chongkho- the alms robot; the intelligent alms-offering robot invented from Ladkrabang Institute of Technology students. – 7 July 2012
