Sanghadana to 40,000 Temples
The Beginning to World Peace
Earth Day, Truly Save the World
April 22nd, Earth Day, is a day we reflect on environmental protectionism. However, according to Buddhism, truly saving the world comes from morality, as the deterioration of the world does not come from only natural causes, but from the deterioration of the human mind.
Therefore, the historic project of mass Sanghadana began with the goal of offering necessities to the monastic community of 40,000 temples across Thailand on the occasion of Earth Day 2026.
The Sangha: The Moral Teachers of the world
In the Tipitaka, the Lord Buddha praised the offering of Sanghadana as the form of giving that yields the greatest merit. This is because when offerings are made to the Sangha who practice rightly and virtuously, the merit spreads to all virtuous members of the monastic community, becoming immeasurable.
Buddhist monks play the role of moral teachers for the world. Supporting the Sangha therefore means supporting the propagation of the Dhamma, both directly and indirectly.
Offering to 40,000 temples is an extraordinary opportunity
1. Concentrating Massive Merit
If one were to offer Sangadhana to one temple per day, it would take 110 years to offer to 40,000 temples. Through this project, however, this great meritorious act can be accomplished within a single day—an opportunity that is extremely rare in one’s lifetime.
2. Making a merit network across the nation.
When the Great Sanghadana takes place simultaneously in over 40,000 temples throughout the country, a powerful wave of wholesome intention arises and resonates across the nation. This strengthens the Buddhist institution in every region and revitalizes the moral current that has been declining in the modern era.
World Peace Starts with the Mind
Regarding world peace, Luang Por Dhammajayo has taught,
“The humam mind can be the beginning of both war and peace.”
When the mind is filled with greed, anger, and delusion, conflict arises. Every war that erupts begins with the fire in the human heart—like a tiny spark that spreads and burns cities to ruin.
“When the human mind is cool and at peace, it becomes filled with mindfulness and wisdom. Immeasurable happiness arises, resulting in peace expanding to surroundings, oneself, family, communities, nations, and the whole world.”
Thus, the mind is a crucial instrument—one that can lead either to world war or to world peace.
In conclusion: the Beginning of World Peace
The offering of the Grand Sanghadana to more than 40,000 temples on this Earth Day is not merely a one-time merit-making activity. It is the starting point for spreading peace throughout the world.
When we collectively support monks, who are our moral teachers, waves of Dhamma energy spread to millions of people, helping them calm their minds, abandon unwholesome actions, and cultivate goodness.
When the minds of people around the world become peaceful and filled with morality, world peace can truly arise—it will no longer be just a dream.
This is true protection of the world: protection through morality, protection that begins with transforming the human mind.
We invite everyone to be part of this historic moment, to create peace for our world together.
