
Wat Phra Dhammakaya-Netherlands was first established in 2016 by Venerable Phramaha Poonsak Poonnasakko. On 20 May 2017, Most Venerable Phravisutthiwongsajarn, a committee member of Sangha Supreme Council of Thailand, ecclesiastical chief of North Region and assistant abbot of Wat Paknam Bhasicharoen, was the monastic chairman for the official opening ceremony of Wat Phra Dhammakaya-Netherlands. There were over 100 monks and 30 disciples from European branches of Wat Phra Dhammakaya and 500 locals of Netherlands, participating in this event.
Its chapel was the former church of Roman Catholic Christian, called Saint-Victor or Gezellenkerk in Afferden (Gelderland). During the past 9 years, Wat Phra Dhammakaya-Netherlands has continuously held activities to propagate Buddhism for the locals, such as the merit making activities on Magha Puja Day & Vesak Day, Kathina Ceremony, meditation retreat and the seminar of Buddhist organizations. On 24 April 2021, Most Venerable Luang Por Dhattajivo was the monastic chairman of enshrining Buddha relics on the top part of chapel.
For the 10th establishment anniversary of Wat Phra Dhammakaya-Netherlands in 2026, there are the enshrinement ceremonies of principal Buddha image & Buddha relics inside the Buddha image head and the monks’ robe offering ceremony for Buddhism propagation funds of 30 European branches of Wat Phra Dhammakaya in honor of the 82nd anniversary of Luang Por Dhammajayo on 16-17 May 2026.
