Mass Ordination of 500 Nepali Novices

On 4 March 2025, at Maya Devi Temple or the birthplace of the Lord Buddha in Nepal, Royal Thai Monastry in Nepal (or Wat Thai Lumbini) cooperated with Wat Phra Dhammakaya for the mass ordination of 500 Nepali novices under the patronage of his Majesty the King, offering 3 monk robe sets to 3 preceptors.

In this event, Most Venerable Phrapromsenabodi, the advisor for the Sangha Supreme Council of Thailand, the abbot of Wat Pathum Khongkha Ratchaworawihan and ecclesiastical chief of region 7, was the monastic chairman. Ambassador of Thailand to Nepal Suwapong Sirisorn was the laypeople chairman and Dr. Lharkyal Lama (Khenpo Chimed), vice chairman of Lumbini Development Trust, delivered a welcome speech for this ceremony.

There were many ecclesiastical officials, attending this ordination ceremony, for example, Most Venerable Phrasriphothivithes – abbot of Royal Thai Monastry, Nepal and assistant head of Dhammaduta Bhikkhus Mission in India-Nepal, Most Venerable Phrakhruphisaldhammasophon – chairman of Nepali Monastic Commission, Venerable Phrakhruviboolnitidham – assistant abbot of Wat Phra Dhammakaya, the Nepali monastic community, led by Bhikkhu Bodhisen Mahathero and senior monks from Theravada, Mahayana and Vajrayana groups.

The ordination program for 500 Nepali novices in honor of the Buddha is organized during 26 February – 16 March 2025 with the cooperation of Dhammaduta Bhikkhus Mission in India-Nepal, Nepali monastic community, Wat Phra Dhammakaya, Dhammakaya Foundation, LDT, PSN and other organization network for the purposes of 1. Honoring the Buddha at his birthplace in Nepal 2. Dedicating this ordination merit to his Majesty the King on occasion of his birthday on 28 July 2025 3. Strengthening the unity of Thai and Nepali Buddhists for the further coordination of Buddhism propagation 4. Promoting morality and opportunity of accumulating merit 5. Expressing gratitude to novices’ parents 6. Reviving the ordination tradition at international level.
