On May 21, Wat Phra Dhammakaya Scotland organized a celebration of Vesak Day and introduced their first session of meditation class for locals. The ceremony started at 3PM of the local time. At the site, there was an exhibition about Buddhism containing information about the importance of Vesak Day, biography and determination of the great masters, the benefits of meditation and the basic meditation technique, as well as, some equipment relating to Buddhism. The exhibition drew attention of over 60 people, both Thais and locals.
After that, around 5.30 PM, all participants gathered to attend the candle-lighting activity to worship Lord Buddha to commemorate Vesak Day. The ceremony began when the presiding monk, i.e. Phramaha Suriyan Amaro, delivered a speech about the history and the importance of Vesak Day, followed by a meditation session to purify the body, the speech and the mind. When it was time, everybody lit candles together creating beautiful scenery in gleam. Today activities brought much delight to everybody’s mind.
